CV

Your CV is the first encounter a practice or agency will have with you. Many base their first impressions of you and your general work ethos upon the content and presentation of this document. As such make sure its accurate and well presented. It is your most powerful selling tool and your first 'weapon' to securing work!

Presentation
  • Avoid being too fancy - keep it simple and neat.
  • Keep it black on white, with well spaced sentences and paragraphs
  • Avoid italics and other fanciful fonts
  • Spelling! - Check, check and then check again!

Structure
  • Don't make it too long - 2 to 3 pages will suffice
  • Put your name and qualifications as your header.
  • A brief sentence stating your aims can be included, e.g. Aiming to achieve a high standard of practice and client care in the veterinary field
  • Keep it concise - bullet points, not long paragraphs - make the information easily accessible!
  • List your most recent work/career commitments/achievements first and work backwards to your least recent or relevant
  • List any recent CPDs attended after listing your work experiences. This  shows you are dedicated and up to date
  • List professional interests
  • Personal interests should be kept short and mentioned at the end.
  • Use verbs and try to limit the use of "Me" and "I" as much as possible.
  • Include your contact details either at the end or at the beginning

Remember - you are selling your services, experience and skills - highlight these!
