Registering
If coming from abroad, you will have to be registered as a vet/vet nurse in the UK before you can work in the profession. This is like getting your licence to work.It is advisable to check that your qualifications are compatible before going to any large expenses only to find out that you are not allowed to work as a vet/vet nurse.
Working as a vet:
To work as a vet, you will need to be registered with the RCVS. To see if your qualification is recognised by the

Registering with RCVS:
Write to the RCVS informing them that you wish to register as a veterinary surgeon in the
UK

Enclose the following certified/original documents:
- your veterinary degree
- proof of registration as a veterinary surgeon in your own country
- a letter of good professional standing from the regulatory body for the veterinary profession in your own country, issued within the last three months and showing that you have not been and are not now subject to disciplinary proceedings there
- the identification section from your passport
- certified translations of the above if the original is not written in English

Working as a veterinary nurse:
If you have trained outside the
UK
, you would have to apply to the veterinary nurse department of the RCVS for consideration before registering as a
UK
veterinary nurse can take place.
