If you are restricted to a geographical area, it is advisable to contact the practices in your preferred area. It is not always necessary to attach a full CV when first approaching a practice. Practices are generally busy places, so don’t have time to read through reams of paperwork!  A simple covering letter that will grab the attention of the reader within the first paragraph is recommended.

A simple covering letter detailing:
Who you are  What level of experience you have  How many years of experience you have  Any additional qualifications/skills you may have eg, certificates, courses you have attended etc.

This should grab the attention of any reader considering hiring a locum vet/vet nurse.

Also mention what type of work you are looking for, e.g. small animal vs. mixed practice.
Make sure that you include contact details and mention that you are willing to supply references and a CV if required.

Not only will helping worthy charities such as Petsavers feel and do good, it will also endear you to those who are thinking of using your services. Add it onto your CV!
